Is a 1031 Exchange?
A
1031 exchange allows a real estate owner to sell a piece of property and
quickly purchase another without being subject to capital gains taxes on
the proceeds from the sale. It is covered by Section 1031 of the IRS tax
code. The seller of the property, also known as the Exchanger, must
follow certain rules for the transaction to qualify as a tax-free 1031
exchange.
